MAN Culture is a group of men who got together with the purpose of being part of the solution to reducing violence against women and girls.
Recognising that men haven’t been part of the solution, or even the conversation, we quickly discovered this was because the majority of men just aren’t aware of some of the things the women in our lives have to go through on a daily basis.
Often when men hear discussions about Violence Against Women and Girls, it can often feel like we’re all being blamed and feel this is unfair, so switch off or detach from the conversation.
The reality is, we as men have a role to play in stopping Violence Against Women and Girls; the first step is to start talking about it; another barrier as men don’t talk easily about topics like this or our feelings; we don’t always feel comfortable to challenge behaviours.
It often doesn’t feel safe to speak up as a man, or say ‘I don’t understand’ for fear of being shot down. However, in our experience stepping into this space, we’ve been welcomed by women.
At MAN Culture we create a safe space to talk about a huge culture shift in what masculinity is, with the aim of starting the conversations that we just haven’t been having.
You can find us in Brewdog at the Barcode every other Wednesday, if you want to come and have a beer or a coffee, but most importantly a chat. We want to hear your thoughts and opinions.
We don’t have the answers and we don’t tell you what you should be doing, we’re just learning ourselves.
